Star League (First)

The Star League Defense Force was the backbone of the first Star League — with hundreds of line regiments that garrisoned the golden age and kept the peace across all of settled space. Composed of the Regular and Royal Army, the SLDF was the best-equipped conventional army humanity had ever fielded and their loyalty to House Cameron and the Star League was unbreakable.

The Regular Army formed the core of the SLDF and for every celebrated Royal command, the SLDF fielded scores of Regular Army divisions — the professional soldiers who patrolled the member states, guarded the Periphery frontier, and formed the great mass of Kerensky’s force during the Amaris Civil War. Regular units carried excellent, technologically advanced equipment by any standard but the Royals’: with integrated combined-arms doctrine, and the training and logistics only a unified interstellar civilization could provide. It was the Regular Army, division upon division, that executed the grinding liberation of the Hegemony and then followed Kerensky into Exodus in their millions. As the workhorse of the golden age, the SLDF Regular Army lets players field a deep, flexible, top-tier force without the rarity of Royal gear — the definitive “professional army at its peak” experience.

Within the vast SLDF, the Royal formations stood apart. Drawn largely from the Terran Hegemony and sworn to House Cameron, these units received first pick of the League’s most advanced equipment — “Royal” variants carrying double heat sinks, extralight engines, advanced electronics, and weapons that line regiments could only dream of. Their MechWarriors, aerospace pilots, and Royal Black Watch guardsmen were the most rigorously trained soldiers of the golden age. When the Amaris Coup struck, it was Royal units that bore the brunt of the fighting for Terra, and Royal formations that Aleksandr Kerensky most prized in the Exodus — the seed stock of the Clans’ later technological supremacy. For collectors and players, the Royals are the ultimate expression of Star League power: the rarest, deadliest, most advanced force the Inner Sphere ever mustered.

Why command the SLDF Army

Because it’s the golden age’s dependable heavy hitter — deep, well-equipped, combined-arms SLDF divisions with the doctrine and numbers to take on anything. For players who want a full-strength professional army from the setting’s most golden era, the SLDF delivers scale and quality together.

The Star League, Era Report: 2750, and Field Manual: SLDF cover the Regular and Royal Army’s organization and designs; the Master Unit List builds a legal SLDF force, with Force Packs fielding period-correct units.
