BattleTech is a science-fiction universe of feudal star nations, ceaseless war, and towering war machines called BattleMechs. Set across the 24th and 32nd centuries, humanity has spread to thousands of worlds spanning the Inner Sphere and the distant Periphery, yet the interstellar empires that rule them remain locked in a cycle of ambition, betrayal, and honor. When faster-than-light communication collapsed or when much of humanity's high technology was lost to generations of warfare, the great powers turned to the BattleMech — a 30-foot humanoid engine of war — as the ultimate arbiter of their disputes.
The story is told through the great Houses of the Inner Sphere, the genetically bred warrior Clans who returned from exile to conquer humanity's cradle, the scrappy realms of the Periphery, and the mercenaries and factions who cut their own path between them. Below, explore the eras that chart BattleTech's sweeping history and the factions that shape its destiny.
